Heads up, local whiskey aficionados: Washington Business Journal is reporting that a new whiskey distillery is opening in the U Street corridor soon.
Plans are still in the works, but according to WBJ, District Distillery will open a combination whiskey distillery/restaurant at the corner of 14th and U Streets NW, at the space formally occupied by Coppi’s Organic and Utopia. The scarce details so far:
District Distillery would be allowed to serve its whiskey in its own restaurant as well as distribute to other establishments through a wholesaler, as long as it distributed less than 50 percent of the whiskey it produced, according to a letter from D.C. Zoning Administrator Matthew Le Grant.
DCist reached out to District Distillery to get more info and we’ll certainly update when we find out more. With this new Distillery, D.C. will now have four within the area—New Columbia Distillers (who make Green Hat gin), Don Ciccio & Figli, and One Eight Distilling, which WBJ reports hopes to open in Ivy City in the next few months.
