A bridge for pedestrians and cyclists that will connect to the Metropolitan Branch Trail and Rhode Island Avenue Metro station is now in place, with the project’s completion on track for late December.

The bridge was hoisted into place above CSX railroad tracks last night, as the below timelapse shows. The installation of the trusses went “very well,” according to a District Department of Transportation spokesperson. When completed, DDOT says the bridge will feature wheelchair and bicycle accessible ramps and a stairway on the west side to provide direct access to the Metro station.

Below is a rendering, from last year, of the completed project.
