A poll commissioned by non-profit Economic Growth DC finds Muriel Bowser has an 8 percent lead over David Catania in the race to become the city’s next mayor, while 27 percent of voters are still undecided.
Thirty-five percent of likely voters voiced support for the Democratic nominee for mayor in the poll, while 27 percent did the same for Independent Catania and 11 percent for former Councilmember Carol Schwartz. Among those polled, 60 percent had a favorable view of Bowser and 55 percent felt that way about Catania.
Some important notes on the methodology: Of the 1,023 people polled, 72 percent were contacted by landline. The majority of the people polled, 53 percent, were white, while 42 percent were black and five percent hispanic. A whooping 43 percent have lived in D.C. for more than 30 years.
“This poll shows the race quite a bit closer than what was reflected in the Post/Marist poll released on September 18,” Economic Growth DC Executive Director said in a release. “Voters have started tuning in and we believe our methodology produced respondents who are somewhat more likely to actually vote.”
Said Post-NBC4-Marist poll found Bowser with 43 percent support among likely voters.
While 81 percent of voters in the latest poll say it’s “very important” for the next mayor to bring “a new ethical standard” to the administration, they are split on who could best do it: 33 percent said Bowser, 34 percent said Catania and 33 percent didn’t know, said none or refused to answer.
