Graffiti of the words “ISIS” and “Allahu Akbar” spotted around D.C. has gotten the attention of the FBI, although no one seems to know who did the tagging.
Marin Cogan of New York Magazine posted pictures of the graffiti she noticed in Northwest D.C. She spoke to Will McCants of Brookings Project on U.S. Relations with the Islamic World, who said “I’ll bet it’s just someone goofing off.”
I also asked FBI spokesman Andrew Ames, who told me “we are aware of the graffiti” and “urge anyone who sees suspicious activity or if anyone has any information about this vandalism to report it to the local authorities or to the FBI.”
ISIS is one of the names given to the Islamic State, a militant group that has terrorized parts of Iraq and Syria, and claimed responsibility for beheading several westerners.
