The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a homicide that occurred in Southeast D.C. very early this morning. It’s the latest homicide in what’s been a particularly violent past few days in D.C.

According to a release, police responded to reports of gunshots in the 2600 block of Wade Road SE at approximately 1:36 a.m. this morning. Officers found a victim in the 2600 block of Birney Place SE suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel.

On Friday, October 3, a man was fatally stabbed in Columbia Heights—on the 3400 block of 14th Street NW— at about 5:30 p.m., police say. Also on Friday, a nine-year-old boy was shot and is currently clinging to life in a D.C. hospital after he was caught in the middle of a shootout near the corner of Hayes Street and Parkside Place NE, the Post reports. Police say two other men were injured by gunfire during the shootout as well, but couldn’t confirm if they were involved or were bystanders. No arrests have been made and MPD are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for anyone that provides information leading to an arrest.

On Sunday, three people were shot in the 3400 block of 24th Street SE at about 5:45 p.m., police also said. According to the Post, one victim was seriously wounded and two were “reported conscious and breathing when taken to hospitals.”

Finally, late Sunday night, a man in Southeast D.C. was fatally shot by police officers after he brandished a handgun and refused to comply with commands to drop it. Police say they “responded to an apartment to assist members of the United States Marshals Service in serving a felony arrest warrant” in the 3200 block of Wheeler Road SE when the suspect produced a handgun and refused to drop it. A U.S. Marshal and an MPD officer discharged their weapon on the suspect who was later pronounced dead.

According to the Post, that man, 36-year-old Michael Abney, had testified against a deadly drug gang; sending at least several members to prison. He was wanted on an assault with a deadly weapon charge.
