Longtime readers of the site know that DCist doesn’t ever make endorsements (except that one time), but if we were to make one for the upcoming election, we’d definitely endorse Ex Hex for everything. Ex Hex for mayor. Ex Hex for D.C. Council. Hell, Ex Hex for President.
The newish D.C. trio—comprised of guitar virtuoso Mary Timony (Wild Flag, Autoclave, Helium), Betsy Wright (Chain & the Gang, Childballads), and Laura Harris (The Aquarium, Benjy Ferree)—just released their appropriately named debut LP, Rips, on Merge Records, and are currently ripping up the music world. If you need more proof of why Ex Hex should run the city, check out their new music video for the single “Waterfall,” which shows the band rocking out in a UFO, saving the city from being forever lame.
The Roger Corman-esque video, which was directed by underground cartoonist M. Wartella, features a host of local music cameos, including Kid Congo Powers, Chain and the Gang’s Francy Graham, The Make-Up’s Michelle Mae, and Ignition and The Faith’s Alec MacKaye. Check it out:
