One of two Texas nurses infected with Ebola will be transferred to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, according to media reports.
CNN and NBC News report that Nina Pham — a 26-year-old nurse who treated Thomas Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S. during the latest outbreak — is expected to be moved to the Maryland facility today. Pham is in good condition, saying in a statement, “I am blessed by the support of family and friends and am blessed to be cared for by the best team of doctors and nurses in the world here at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.”
The second nurse, Amber Vinson, was transferred to Emory University earlier this week. There are four units in the U.S. that are equipped to handle Ebola cases.
In August, NIH began human testing of an Ebola vaccine, which director Dr. Francis Collins says would have been completed at this point if not for budget cuts.
Despite the fact that the majority of Americans have nothing to fear, 19 percent of people surveyed for a recent poll said they are “very concerned” they will contract Ebola.
