D.C.’s Department of Health launched an Ebola information page yesterday after a top official said that 12 people had been monitored for the virus in the city, which is “well prepared” to handle possible cases.
“The D.C. Department of Health and its partners are taking precautions to make sure the District of Columbia is well prepared to deal with any potential cases,” Joxel Garcia, DOH’s director, said in a letter. “We are proactively working with community partners as well as hospitals, clinics, laboratories and other health care providers throughout the city.”
The site includes basic information about Ebola, links to more information and four bolded key factors including “There are no Ebola cases in the District of Columbia” and “The District is well prepared and equipped to manage public health issues such as Ebola.”
At a press conference yesterday, Garcia said the city is aggressively preparing for possible cases from West Africa, declining to say if and how many possible cases are currently being monitored. As the Post reported, Garcia said information about potential cases share publicly will be limited to prevent fear from spreading.
