A federal judge has denied D.C.’s motion to reconsider a ruling that overturned the city’s ban on carrying handguns in public.

D.C.’s attorneys are not sure if they will file an appeal, according to Zoe Tillman of the National Law Journal. Judge Frederick Scullin’s stay on his ruling ends on October 22, when Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier is scheduled to release regulations that comply with the city’s law on concealed carry permits.

Barring any further developments, the city will begin accepting applications for concealed carry permits next week. Under the current law, applications must prove “legitimate need” to be approved by Lanier for a permit. Pro-gun advocates have filed a motion to stop D.C. from implementing the law; arguments will be heard in November.
