In a little over a week, you, resident of the District of Columbia, will be voting (we hope!). Among the things you can vote for is to legalize the possession and cultivation of small amounts of marijuana for personal use.

You probably have questions about Initiative 71 and the D.C. Cannabis Campaign—the grassroots organization that drafted and submitted the ballot initiative—will be holding a community conversation tonight to discuss whatever questions you might have. Tonight at Shiloh Baptist Church (corner of 9th and P Streets NW) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., author and economist Dr. Julianne Malveaux will moderate a panel of experts on marijuana law and policy.

Meanwhile, T.I.E.D.C.—the opponents of Initiative 71—unveiled today their new ads that will be on Metrobuses throughout the area. According to T.I.E.D.C. spokesman Pat Royal, “the advertisements which will begin running today through Election Day are 12 foot ads that will run on the side of WMATA buses mostly in Southeast DC, where legalization will have the greatest impact.”

The ads, WAMU’s Martin Austermuhle reports, cost the campaign approximately $3,377.

All are invited to attend and voice their concerns with Initiative 71 at tonight’s hearing. More info available here.
