Last week, D.C. hosted the Washington International Horse Show at the Verizon Center, a multi-day event that featured Shetland pony racing. Yes, pony racing.
Let the organizers explain: “WIHS Shetland Pony Steeplechase races are run like professional racing events with a bugler, race caller and photo finish, but the jockeys are youngsters from seven to 16.” Participating horses included Knight’s Taffy, Olney Smarty Pants, Cricket the Wonder Pony, Leo the Magnificent and My Friend Fluffy.
