Update: WUSA9 is reporting that former ANC commissioner William C. Shelton, convicted of stealing public funds, is running for ANC 8C05. But a call to the number listed with the D.C. Board of Elections reached Cardell Shelton, a Republican who says he is indeed running for the seat. We’ve reached out to the reporter behind the story for more information.
Amended post
William C. Shelton, a former Ward 5 ANC commissioner convicted of stealing nearly $30,000 from the city, is apparently not running for city office, despite a report from WUSA9 that claimed otherwise.
We stopped by Shelton’s address listed with the D.C. Board of Elections; a run-down home on Upsal Street, SE where the lawn was littered with building materials, a car with no tags, and old political signs. We learned the home is owned by 84 year old Cardell Shelton, not the 45 year old candidate William C. Shelton. But then again, you may not recognize his name and he’s counting on it; running in the ANC 8C05 this year as W. Cardell Shelton. New name – new address.
But a call to the number listed with the D.C. Board of Elections reached a man, Cardell Shelton, who said he is indeed the one running for the seat. Shelton, a Republican, formerly ran for Ward 8 Council. He will face BES Business Services founder Brenda Shields at the polls.
