Mayor-elect Muriel Bowser announced the eight committees that will round out her transition team and the people who will lead them Wednesday night.
Last week, the Ward 4 Councilmember named four former mayors as honorary co-chairs and five community leaders, including former D.C. Superior Court Judge Mary Terrell and Brookings fellow Alice Rivlin, as co-chairs to her transition team. The eight committees the co-chairs will help oversee are:
Affordable Housing, led by co-chairs Polly Donaldson of the Transitional Housing Corporation and Carol Thompson Cole of Venture Philanthropy Partners.
Arts and the Creative Economy, led by Marvin Bowser, the mayor-elect’s brother and director of Missions Systems at Leidos, and former Washington Ballet executive director Kay Kendall.
Economic Development and Jobs, led by five people including Bowser’s former opponent Andy Shallal of Busboys and Poets.
Education Committee, led by Howard University President Dr. Wayne Frederick and Fight for Children CEO Michela English.
Health, Human Services & Homelessness, led by Laura Meyers of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington and Louvenia Williams of the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative.
Public Safety, led by Karma Cottman of the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Judith Sandalow of the Children’s Law Center.
Transportation, Environment, Sustainability and Infrastructure Committee, led by two people including Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells.
Open & Good Government and Full Democracy, led by the main co-chairs
At Gallaudet University last night, Bowser said she needs to fill 300 positions in her administration, “people who think outside of the box, who will challenge my own thinking, who will push us every step of the way to do the right things for the District of Columbia.” All members working on her transition team are required to sign a code of ethics.
