Homicide Watch D.C., a local site devoted to covering each unlawful killing in the city, will close at the end of the year, unless an organization or person commits to taking over operations.

While the end of the year is fast approaching, there’s still time to save the site. Chris Amico, who founded what’s now a network of sites with his wife Laura, published a request for proposals last week seeking “interested parties who would like to undertake the rewarding challenge of continuing to operate the site and engage with its community.”

“We want to be clear on this: We believe the money can be raised to support this site’s editorial mission, but Laura and I cannot continue to be the primary owners of the site,” Chris Amico wrote. “This is open to anyone willing to commit to continuing the work of Homicide Watch D.C., to report every murder in the District from crime to conviction.”

While Homicide Watch D.C. is undeniably a valued resource in D.C., Chris and Laura Amico’s move to Boston has made it impossible for them to continue running the site. In an email last month, Laura Amico declined to say which organizations they had discussed taking over Homicide Watch with, “but we are open to discussions with anyone who may want to bring the site back.”
