The D.C. area is a “C” student when it comes to housing affordability.

The grade was provided by Interest.com in its 2014 Home Affordability Study, which found that middle-income families are unable to afford the median-priced home in just over half of the country’s 25 largest cities.” A “C” grade, which the D.C., Dallas and Philadelphia metropolitan areas received, indicates that someone making the median income can afford a median-priced home.

In D.C., the median area home price is $403,600, according to the report, while median income is $90,149. The report used information from the Census Bureau, National Association of Realtors, National Association of Insurance Commissioners and credit rating agency Experia to compile the ranking.

None of the areas were given an “A,” but Minneapolis-St. Paul, Atlanta and St. Louis all received “B”s.
