Amid the frigid temperatures today, a handful of reporters got to tour the inside and outside of the U.S. Capitol Dome, which is currently covered in scaffolding as it undergoes renovations.
Today’s tour and press conference marks the completion of the first phase of the dome’s restoration, which is to add 52 miles of scaffolding so that workers can get to work on repainting and repairing. According to the Washington Times, the $60 million renovation projected must be completed—and the scaffolding down—”before the presidential inauguration in January 2017.”
