ART PARTY: To kick off the 11th Annual “Artful Weekend,” the Arlington Artists Alliance will host an opening reception at the Hendry House (2411 24th St N., Arlington, Va.) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The weekend art show features pieces from nearly 40 artists from Arlington. Open Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. Free.
POETRY: Poets Joshua Weiner, a professor at the University of Maryland, and Hayes Davis, a teacher at Sidwell Friends, respond to the Folger Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar with original works. 8 p.m. Free, but call 202-544-7077 to reserve a spot.
CHARITY: The Second Annual Toys for Tots Charity Event at NYU Washington, D.C. (1307 L Street NW) doesn’t require a trip to Toys “R” Us, but it does mandate cocktail attire. A $30 tickets grants you access to an open bar, food and time with Miss District of Columbia Teresa Davis. RSVP to pay at the door here.

BEER: Winter is coming, and so are the beers that are best consumed during the season. Sample 150 beers from 75 breweries during the DC Craft Beer Festival at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (801 Mt Vernon Place NW.) A $49 general admission ticket includes unlimited tasting and access to seminars while a $65 VIP tickets get you that plus an extra hour of tasting time. General sessions begin at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
FILM: Filmmakers and storytellers have five days to create and produce a short film as part of SpeakeasyShorts 2014. The results will be screened at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at U.S. Navy Memorial Heritage Center’s Burke Theater (701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW). $20.
BIKE: Bring a bike, lock and about $20 for food to participate in Cranksgiving DC, a food drive and scavenger hunt by bike to support Miriam’s Kitchen. Depending on the route, the ride is between 12 and 25 miles. Registration under the Key Bridge (3400 K Street NW) begins at noon and the event starts at 12:30 p.m. A party will follow at Tonic (2036 G Street NW) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Register here.

BALLET: Members of the Kirov Academy of Ballet “will enact a 19th century ballet rehearsal in honor of Degas’s ‘Little Dancer’ in the West Garden Court of the National Gallery of Art.” Free. 3:30 p.m. The performance will be preceded by a 2 p.m. lecture, “Inside Look: Little Dancer Aged Fourteen,” by conservators and curators from the National Gallery of Art in the West Building Lecture Hall.

BIKES: The last Bike House clinic of the season will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Farmers Market (102 R Street NW). “Come winterize your bike before it’s too late,” says spokesperson Dan Crawford.
SPACE: Watch the Cosmos episode “The Lives of the Stars” (the Sagan version, natch) then eat apple pie outside the David M. Brown Planetarium (1426 N Quincy St, Arlington, Va.) 1 p.m. Free.
