The Capitol Christmas tree has arrived from Minnesota, where it was chopped down for the benefit of America’s holiday spirit.

The 88-foot white spruce was harvested from the Chippewa National Forest in Cass Lake, Minn. in late October and has been making spots around the country since. “The tree will be decorated with thousands of ornaments, handcrafted by children and others from Minnesota communities,” according to the Architect of the Capitol.

A lighting ceremony, free and open to the public, will take place on the West Front Lawn on December 2 at 5 p.m. After that, the tree will be lit from sundown until 11 p.m. every night until January 1, 2015.
