It’s that time of year again. No, not the part where you see your family, give thanks, and stuff your face with your bodyweight’s worth of turkey and stuffing, but the part that comes before all that: Thanksgiving traveling.

I know, yikes!

For those headed out of town via one of the region’s three airports, here’s all the relevant information regarding Metrorail and Metrobus you need to be aware of to get to where you’re going this week.

Metrorail

Rest assured that there won’t be any scheduled track work on Metro this week or weekend. Rail service will operate on a holiday schedule on Thursday (7 a.m. to midnight), with off-peak fares in effect all day and free parking at Metro facilities. Tuesday and Friday will follow a normal weekday schedule and Saturday and Sunday will be normal weekend schedules, with no track work planned.

Metrobus

Metrobus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thursday. Normal schedule all other days.

MetroAccess

MetroAccess will operate the same hours as Metrorail and Metrobus, but subscription trips will be cancelled on Thursday, unless customers specifically request to travel on Thanksgiving.

Getting to Dulles Airport

WMATA suggests taking Metrobus Route 5A, which is a direct service between Dulles and the L’Enfant Plaza and Rosslyn stations. You can also hop on the Silver Line to Wiehle-Reston East and then take the Washington Flyer bus to the airport.

Getting to BWI Airport

On November 26, 29, and 30, Metro is offering 80 additional to BWI Airport by taking the Green Line to the Greenbelt station and transferring to the B30 Metrobus. With the extra trips, there will be a bus leaving every 20 minutes between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on these days.

Getting to National Airport and/or Union Station

Blue and Yellow Line for National Airport, Red Line for Union Station. Nothing special to get you there, you know the drill.

More info on travel tips can be found on WMATA’s Web site.
