Members of the public will have the opportunity to sign a condolence book this week for Councilmember Marion Barry, who died early Sunday.
“The Book of Condolence offers residents an opportunity to express their sympathy and appreciation for the life and legacy of our beloved four-term Mayor and three-term Councilmember, Marion S. Barry, Jr.,” according to a release from the Council. “To many, Mr. Barry represented hope and justice. He championed policies to help ‘the last, the lost and the least’ – as he would often say. Mr. Barry loved the District of Columbia and so many residents loved him more.”
The book will be available to sign on the first floor of the Wilson Building today, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Barry died at age 78 on Sunday from natural causes due to heart problems. A public memorial service is still being planned.
