As the District prepares to celebrate the life of “mayor-for-life” and Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry, with three days of events and memorial services, the D.C. Board of Elections has announced plans for a special election to fill his Council seat.

On April 28, 2015, the BOE will hold the special election for the Ward 8 Council seat. Per regulations, prospective candidates must obtain 500 signatures of registered voters in Ward 8 during the petition circulation period in order to appear on the ballot.

Nominating petitions for Barry’s Council seat, which he’s held since 2004, will be made available on Monday, December 8 and must be turned in by Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
