Less than a week after being struck with a vehicle by a driver, prominent Capitol Hill resident Steve Cymrot died Saturday from injuries sustained during the incident.
An investigation by the Major Crash unit is currently in progress, according to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department: “At this time, there have been no charges filed.” The news was first reported by Capital Community News.
Cymrot, the founding president of the Capitol Hill Community Foundation and Capitol Hill Association of Merchants and Professionals, was struck at 4th and East Capitol streets NE, near Riverby Books, which he owned with his son Paul.
“Steve had a keen understanding of what made Capitol Hill a special place to live and devoted his formidable talent and boundless friendship to making it even more so,” Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells said in a release. “From raising funds in the aftermath of the devastating fire at Eastern Market to providing key support for the Hill Center, Steve was instrumental in Capitol Hill’s metamorphosis into one of the best places to live in America.”
At least eight pedestrians, including a construction worker, have been killed by vehicles this year.
