Update: Officials are now saying the southbound lanes of the GW Parkway at Route 123 will be closed until tomorrow morning, at the very least. From the Post:

“The current estimate,” Hecox said, is that the parkway would reopen “tomorrow before rush hour.” But he cautioned that he did not know exactly when that would be and that officials still needed to coordinate with the U.S. Park Police, the agency that helps oversees the roadway.

Noted local celebrity, a sinkhole, has appeared near D.C. this morning, this time forming on the George Washington Memorial Parkway, causing serious delays during morning rush hour.

The Post reports that the sinkhole developed sometime last night and closed down southbound lanes of the GW Parkway between Route 123 and Spout Run Parkway.

A spokesman with the Federal Highway Administration told the Post that the southbound lanes will be closed until at least noon. As for if the lanes will be reopened by evening rush hour? “It is too soon to tell,” he said. “I don’t know.”
