Celebrities will help the President of the United States light a Christmas tree this evening, making life a little more difficult for the people of D.C.
Between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. today, 15th and 17th streets, between Constitution Avenue and E Street NW, will be closed. The Metropolitan Police Department says the following roads will be closed at 4 p.m. until the event ends:
15th Street NW and New York Avenue, NW 15th Street NW and G Street NW 15th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW 15th Street NW and F Street NW 15th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW 17th Street NW from Constitution Avenue NW to State Place/New York Avenue NW 17th Street NW from C Street NW to E Street NW 18th Street, NW from D Street to E Street NW
Metro is warning of delays and detours to the following bus routes:
3Y, 7Y, 11Y, 16X, 16Y, 30N, 30S, 32, 36, 37, 38B, 39, 42, 43, 52, 53, 54, 80, D1, D3, D5, D6, G8, H1, L1, N2, N3, N4, P6, P17, P19, S1, S2, S4, S9, W13, X1 and X2
Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between 12th and 14th streets, will also be closed for a Marion Barry memorial event at the Wilson Building.
Tonight’s National Christmas tree lighting, hosted by America’s sweetheart Tom Hanks, will begin at 5 p.m. and be live-streamed. The tree, located on The Ellipse, will be lit every night until January 1, 2015.
