If you needed some affirmation that there’s, uh, New Hope for future generations, here’s one: A nine-year-old girl, frustrated by the lack of female Star Wars action figures at Toys ‘R’ Us, wrote a letter to the company and George Lucas to complain.
As first reported by Fox 8, nine-year-old Abigail Schneier wrote a letter to Lucas and Toys ‘R’ Us President Hank Mullany in October to express her frustration that the only female Star Wars toys she could find were a Princess Leia doll and, uh, a Slave Leia action figure.
“Dear Mr. Lucas and Mr. Mullany,” the letter, which WUSA9 posted, reads. “I LOVE Star Wars because there are a lot of awesome girls! The trouble is that when I went to Toys ‘R’ Us I could only find…[a] Princess Leia doll…and [L]eia as Jabba’s slave.”
She then lists all the female Star Wars characters whose action figures she would like to see because “they fight for what they believe in,” and signs it “help me Mr. Lucas and Mr. Mullany, you’re my only hope!”
And she heard back from Toys ‘R’ Us! About a month later she received a letter back from them along with action figures of Padme Amidala (Abby’s favorite female character, according to her mother), Bastila Shan and Toryn Farr. “Your comments help us understand how we can continue to deliver smiles to children around the world,” the letter from Toys ‘R’ Us reads.
Let’s hope Lucas also reads comments from fans and takes them under consideration, but we know how well that’s gone over in the past.
