It’s not every day that DCist writes about sports, unless it’s about the ongoing controversy of the Washington football team (but mostly because that’s a social justice issue more than it is about sports), but this video of John Wall breaking down in tears after the Wizards’ double overtime win against the Boston Celtics last night, in which he scored 26 points and had 17 assists, is devastating.
Some background: Recently, Wall had befriended a six-year-old Damiyah Telemaque-Nelson, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in October of 2013. Wall, who had helped Miyah meet one of her heroes, Nicki Minaj, dedicated yesterday’s game to her. She died yesterday as a result of her battle with cancer.
In a postgame interview with Comcast Sports Net, Wall breaks down in tears after a reporters asks him to “walk him through his emotions.” Watch this video and try to not tear up. Just try.
