Christmas was four days ago and you’re probably set on keeping that tree up for a little while longer, but it’s not too soon to start thinking about discarding it.

Yesterday, the Department of Public Works started their annual holiday tree collecting. Until January 10, they’ll collect your sad, dying Christmas trees and other greenery:

Holiday trees and greenery will be collected between December 28 and January 10 and will be composted. Trees and greenery collected after January 10 will be collected with the trash as space permits in the truck.

The DPW also asks to remove “ornaments, tinsel, and other decorations” before putting your tree out by your trash and recycling bins. Because the only sadder than a discarded, dying Christmas tree is a decorated discarded, dying Christmas tree.
