The mother of a nine-year-old child struck in the head by a stray bullet in October is still trying to raise money for her son’s care, questioning why his story has not attracted more attention.

In a post on a Go Fund Me page set up for nine-year-old Jaydan Stancil, his mother Monique writes that she was recently visited by a stranger from Delaware.

He stated that he knew of Jaydan’s Go Fund Me account and wondered how come Jaydan’s fund did not grow over night like the family that [lost] love ones in the home that the airplane hit. I said, “I do not know,” and told him, “Jaydan is just another black child shot in the nation’s capital.” He told me he would be here for a short while visiting his parents over the holidays, gave me five $100 bills and said, “I hope it helps with something.”

So many of my friends have asked me that question as well and my answer remains the same, “Jaydan is just another black child shot in the District.” It is very troubling but the truth.

Monique Stancil said she’s not seeking donations, but simply letting people know about her situation. She claims District of Columbia officials have “done absolutely nothing to relocate my children out of Mayfair Mansion Apartments,” the subsidized housing complex in Northeast D.C. where Jaydan was shot. Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander told NBC4 she is trying to help relocate the family.

Jaydan Stancil was released from the hospital this week, the bullet still in his head. Monique Stancil said, with money from victims’ compensation funds, she will check into a hotel with her son. Her Go Fund Me page has raised $16,963 of a $20,000 goal.
