While one D.C. transportation project will not open on time, another has opened ahead of schedule.

The Rhode Island Avenue pedestrian and bike bridge opened this morning. The bridge provides passage from the Metropolitan Branch Trail to the neighborhood Metro station over CSX train tracks.

“The bridge design includes wheelchair and bicycle accessible ramps to enhance safety for all users and lighting features to allow for greater visibility,” according to a construction report. “As part of the design a stairway will be placed on the west side of the bridge to provide direct access to the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station.”

Request for comment from the D.C. Department of Transportation was not returned.
