There are many disadvantages to cycling in the winter. Over and above the constant threats of getting doored and getting name-called by Post columnists, there are new and scarier dangers, such as the heightened opportunity for slipping due to sudden snowfall or continually icy roads.
But Pleasant Pops Farmhouse Market & Cafe feels for these folks that commute on two wheels. That’s why they plan to reward them with free tea and coffee. If you’re biking within the vicinity of the cafe over the next month (which is to say, the U Street, Adams Morgan, or Kalorama neighborhoods), a Pleasant Pops employee might greet you or your parked bike with a “Cheer Card” that will get the owner a free cup of joe (or tea).
Although their purpose is two-fold, to cheer up cold cyclists and to reward people for using sustainable methods of transit, motorists aren’t excluded from the cafe’s gift giving. Any car they see that has been ticketed will also receive a cheer card. It’s a small win for those who played a game of chance with Parking Enforcement and lost. Also, a way for a restaurant that specializes in popsicles to stay relevant in the winter months.
