A firefighter and one other person suffered serious injuries after a house fire in the Trinidad neighborhood destroyed at least one apartment this morning.

The Post first reported the fire, which occurred in the 1100 block of Oates Street NE this morning. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Service Department’s spokesman Tim Wilson tells DCist that a “hoarding situation” was discovered at the scene of the fire, but says it’s too early to tell if that was the cause of the blaze.

The fire started just after 9 a.m. in the Trinidad rowhouse that had been converted to apartments. The apartment with the alleged “hoarding situation” was damaged and one resident of the apartment, along with the firefighter, left the scene in serious condition. Wilson stated that the firefighter will be released today but does not know the status of the injured resident.
