File this under “news that surprises no one:” Maryland leads the United States as the location of choice for millionaires (with Virginia and D.C. not too far behind.) Phoenix Marketing International, a global marketing services firm, has released their survey of where millionaires in the United States choose to hang their hats, and Maryland is, once again, number one — an honor the state has held since 2011.
Via Phoenix Marketing.
Phoenix Marketing compares total households to those with over $1 million in assets — that ratio then becomes the defining stat. Thus, in Maryland, millionaires make up 7.67 percent of the population. And (again, no surprise here) all areas comprising the D.C. area are actually represented in the top 10. Virginia ranks at number six with 6.76 percent millionaires (a jump from its place at number seven in 2013), while D.C. has been holding strong at the tenth spot for several years now; this year, its millionaire percentage is 6.25 percent.
So yeah, a lot of über-rich people live here…but you already knew that, right?
