Hopefully, you remember the first time we met the soaring, epic, cymbal-smashing explosion that is Polyon‘s “Crest.” The power in this song is impossible to ignore; it calls to mind a cartoonish blast that pulls skin off the face, causing jowls to flap and eyelids to rise like sails in the ensuing sonic waves. But there’s nothing silly about “Crest”, nor its brand new music video, directed by Nitro Douglas (the mind behind some Paperhaus, A.C.M.E., and Deleted Scenes videos).
Black, white, and eerie all over, the video is the perfect match to its pounding audio companion. The swooping, spinning camera couldn’t be more fitting to the repeated idea of “perspective” in the song: “Thought that you were alone / ’til you found the right religion /
thought that you were alone / I’ll just put some new perspective here.”
As ideas and principles twist and contort through various lenses, so do these visuals: Sometimes flittering, sometimes overlapping, but rarely in sync.
