It’s a sad day for Georgetown students and Red Sox fans—Georgetowner reports that Rhino Bar will close on February 28th.
Rhino Bar opened its doors in 1998, but 3295 M Street NW has been a staple of the Georgetown bar scene well before the Red Sox started winning World Series. Rhino’s previous iteration was called Winston’s Bar and, prior to that, The Shamrock when it opened in 1952.
The reason for Rhino Bar’s closing? The rent is now too damn high. Eater DC and other patrons report that the ending of Rhino is due to an “inability to reach an agreement with the (pig-dog capitalist) landlord.” Ouch.
In addition to throwing a massive goodbye party on February 22nd, they will throw parties for the teams that they draw a strong fan base including Ohio State, Penn State, and the Philadelphia Eagles. They announced on their Facebook page that there would be limited edition t-shirts and tank tops available for $25.
