If music be the food of love, then Gourmet Symphony may be your best bet for a memorable, romantic, and tasty Valentine’s Day.
The creation of John Coco and John Devlin —a food industry veteran and a veteran orchestra conductor, respectively—will reach new levels of entertainment Saturday night in the Atlas District. Both men combine their talents to create a four-course tasting dinner with local chefs and musicians for an edible and auditory feast.
Food is being provided by chefs from H Street dining establishments like Smith Commons, Vendetta, and Eastern Market’s Beuchert’s Saloon. Each course will be paired with classical works featuring Devlin conducting Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Ravel, performed by local professional musicians.
Coco told DCist that the core philosophy behind Gourmet Symphony is “to shed a spotlight on the local artisans and artists who make up the D.C. community. Connecting music to food and drink makes you use all your senses when you are enjoying something.”
Gourmet Symphony is an all-volunteer group of professionals donating time and services; they launched their ambitious program raising funds through Kickstarter. They seek to connect people and communities through this imaginative format.
If you still don’t have plans for that special Valentine’s Day night or your favorite spot is booked, you can snag a ticket for dinner and a show for $125. General admission tickets to the Gourmet Symphony Premiere Concert are available for purchase by visiting the Atlas Box Office at 1333 H Street NE, by calling 202-399-7993, or online.
