Yesterday, three students were tragically murdered in their Chapel Hill apartment. While police are investigating as to whether the murder was a hate crime or if it was over a parking space dispute, people all over the country are mourning the three Muslim students, Deah Barakat, his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, and her sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha.
Tonight, civil rights activists will hold a candlelight vigil in honor of the three victims.
The vigil, which was organized by the Council on American Islamic Relations and the D.C. Ferguson movement will take place at 6:30 p.m. right by the Dupont Circle fountain.
“Join us to pray for their souls’ rest, for peace and strength to their families and loved ones, and for the God consciousness we all need to carry on after such devastating loss,” the vigil’s Facebook page states.
Organizers are asking those attending to bring their own candles, if possible, as well as posters to honor the victims. They’ll be collecting notes to send to the Barakat and Abu-Salha families in Chapel Hill as well.
