Yesterday, the National Transportation Safety Board urged immediate action that Metro can take to help prevent situations like last months fatal smoke incident from happening again. It’s good that Metro is addressing these concerns from the NTSB promptly but that means you should probably avoid the Blue Line this weekend. Here’s what’s going on:
Red Line
Trains every 10-20 minutes on Saturday and Sunday.
Red Line trains will operate as follows through closing Sunday:
- Between Shady Grove and Glenmont: every 20 minutes.
- Additional trains between Shady Grove and Dupont Circle and between Glenmont and Judiciary Square every 10-12 minutes Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Work Performed: Joint elimination, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride between Dupont Circle and Judiciary Square.
Blue Line
Buses replace trains between Van Dorn Street and King Street-Old Town; shuttle bus service between Eisenhower Avenue and Van Dorn Street
From 12:01 a.m. Saturday through closing Monday, there will be no Blue Line train service between King Street and Van Dorn Street; Blue Line trains will operate in two segments throughout the weekend:
- Between Huntington & Largo Town Center at regular weekend intervals
- Between Franconia-Springfield & Van Dorn St at regular weekend intervals
Shuttle bus service will be provided every 5-10 minutes between Eisenhower Avenue and Van Dorn Street stations. Please allow an additional 15 minutes travel time.
Last Train Time Change: The last Blue Line train of the night from Franconia-Springfield to Van Dorn Street will depart 29 minutes earlier than normal to allow for shuttle bus connections. On Friday and Saturday nights, the last train will leave Franconia-Springfield at 2 a.m. On Sunday and Monday, the last train will leave Franconia-Springfield at 11 p.m.
Work Performed: NTSB-recommended track circuit module replacement between King Street-Old Town and Van Dorn Street.
