Earlier today, Washingtonian reported that The Georgetown Neighborhood Library has been closed since Friday due to a broken pipe that’s caused some significant flooding. The flooding, in effect, has caused a lot of damage, most notably to the Peabody Room. The room contains a multitude of historic documents and photos that date back the neighborhood’s founding in 1751.
Meanwhile, the Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site says the museum portion is closed today due to a water leak. According to National Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst, the leak has left an inch of water in the museum. Unlike the situation at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library, no artifacts were damaged by the leak.
While the source of the leak has been located and stopped, crews haven’t determined what caused it.
