Perhaps one of the best (who are we kidding, the best) parts of visiting a brewery is the free samples of beer. Well, no more of that at DC Brau, thanks to you freeloaders taking advantage of their generous samples of beer.

The brewery says that they’re discontinuing free samples because of “widespread abuse” of the tasting policy during growler hours. DC Brau’s permit allows up to 12 ounces of free tasting per person per visit, which translates to four drink tickets to be redeemed for 3.5-ounce “tasting” pours. Unfortunately, some people were trying to skirt DC Brau’s generosity by obtaining more drink tickets then alloted.

“This definitely isn’t something we wanted to do,” DC Brau CEO and co-founder Brandon Skall says in a statement. “Unfortunately people were going to great lengths to circumvent the system to drink more without paying. We are all for having people try our beers, but we have to stay compliant to the rules. This decision isn’t about the money, it’s about protecting our license.”

Instead, DC Brau will now sell 3.5-ounce tastes of their beer for $2 during growler hours. This is why we can’t have nice things, people.
