The cold weather is not doing anyone any favors today. Especially if you’re a Metro rider.
As it’s prone to do during extreme temperatures, Metro is having a lot of problems today. Early this morning, the Silver and Orange Lines were experiencing serious delays this morning due to single tracking because of a cracked rail:

In addition to the cracked rail, Metro reports of a power outage at the L’Enfant Plaza station that left many commuters in the dark, literally. Metro says a “commercial power problem” is to blame for the outage and crews continue to troubleshoot while the 9th and D Street entrance remains closed.
Meanwhile, the Green and Yellow Lines are single tracking between Fort Totten and Georgia Avenue due to a track problem near the Fort Totten station, Metro says. The track problem is causing delays in both directions.
In short, avoid Metro today. Stay inside forever.
