A few weeks ago, Metro introduced a budget plan that would, among other things increase fares and cut service for both Metrorail and Metrobus. Following a public hearing, the Metro Board decided to delay a decision to implement the plan for at least two more weeks. That decision has been extended.

In a statement, the WMATA Board said they voted to “forego any fare increases or substantial cuts in bus or rail service” for the time being as they work to adopt a more balanced budget. However, the Board’s final budget vote will come this spring, which means that a fare hike and/or service cuts aren’t completely off the table.

“While the final budget vote will come in the spring, the Board’s action today reflects a continued commitment to further reduce administrative costs and reprogram money from non-safety programs, and signals continued support from our jurisdictional funding partners to help balance the budget and continue our standing fare and service policies,” WMATA says.

Additionally, WMATA says that their search for a new General Manager is ongoing and that Jack Requa will remain interim GM.
