Because of all the weather we’ve been experiencing, Department of Public Works crews have had some trouble picking up your trash and recycling. You may have noticed. Mayor Muriel Bowser has and that’s why she’s deploying the DPW to collect the buildup of trash from resulting from recent snow storms this weekend.

The “All Hands on Deck” blitz will begin this weekend, as trash collection crews will collect all garbage that hasn’t been collected, with help from the leaf team and private companies. Additionally, crews will salt alleys to make it easier for collectors to come by early next week as more snow is expected.

“This winter has been particularly challenging, but the District’s government and our employees are rising to the challenge,” City Administrator Rashad Young said in a statement. “Our crews are going all hands on deck and will work through the weekend to ensure that all trash is picked up in the next 72 hours.”

Additionally, due to the expected snow next week, the return of residential street sweeping has been postponed to Monday, March 9.
