Via Crumbs and Whiskers.People are really excited about D.C.’s first cat cafe. How excited? Excited enough that, within 12 hours of launching its Kickstarter, it’s already raised nearly $13,000.
Crumbs & Whiskers—the brainchild endeavor of 24-year-old Kanchan Singh, who left her management consulting job to open a cat cafe—launched its Kickstarter last night with the hopes of raising $15,000 toward opening the cafe.
Regardless of the Kickstarter results, however, Singh has eyes to open the cat cafe mid-to-late summer. Currently, Singh writes that they’re in the process of signing a lease and have filed for a Zoning Special Exemption for the specific property they’re leasing, which could be the most complicated process of opening the cafe.
Once open, the Washington Humane Society will provide cats for the cafe, all of which will be available for adoption. As Singh writes, “the cat cafe is also the foster home for these cats, which means we rescue them from our partner shelter, The Washington Humane Society.” The cafe will be a home for the cats until they’re adopted out.
Though Crumbs & Whiskers’ Kickstarter is almost fully funded, you can still donate and get one of the rewards, like, uh, your ex’s name written on a kitty litter box. Seriously.
