A mother and daughter from Nokesville, Virginia were among the people aboard a plane that crashed in the French Alps yesterday.

The Post reports that Yvonne Selke and her daughter, Emily Selke, were among the 150 passengers who died in yesterday’s crash. The New York Post reports that a third American also died in the crash, but the victim’s identification has yet to be released.

The plane that crashed was a Germanwings flight headed to Germany from Spain. Authorities are still trying to piece together what happened—why the Airbus jet seemingly dropped from its flight path before crashing into a snowy alpine in the French Alps. A black box, containing the flight’s cockpit record, was recovered, but in a damaged state, so authorities haven’t been able to uncover the full audio from the pilots yet.

However, the Associated Press reports that a second black box—that should contain the flight data recorder—had been found, but without its contents. With a reported large debris field, it could be some time before it’s recovered.

The Selke family released a statement yesterday asking for privacy during this tragic time. “Our entire family is deeply saddened by the losses of Yvonne and Emily Selke,” the statement says. “Two wonderful, caring, amazing people who meant so much to so many. At this difficult time we respectfully ask for privacy and your prayers.”
