Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a White House staffer leaves his cushy job working for the president to head a new D.C. office for a popular comedy website. No? Well, it’s not a joke: purveyors of viral comedy Funny or Die are opening a D.C. office and it’s going to be headed by Brad Jenkins, former associate director of the White House’s Office of Public Engagement.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Jenkins, who was “acting as the President’s liaison to the creative and advocacy communities,” will open up the D.C. office in the 1776 campus as the managing director and executive producer. During his stint in the White House, Jenkins was responsible for a lot of President Barack Obama’s more viral moments, like his taping of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis.

While Funny or Die’s D.C. office will, predictably, focus on making fun of politics and the happenings of the Hill, it’ll also “[provide] consulting services to clients on reaching the public via social media and, presumably, through comedy.”

In a statement, White House senior advisor to Obama said that “whether working behind the scenes to help drive traffic to Healthcare.gov through the president’s appearance on Between Two Ferns or helping celebrities engage on the president’s policy initiatives, Brad served as a key link to creative executives, artists, advocacy leaders, and more.”

So yeah, welcome to D.C., Funny or Die. Just don’t stand on the left side of the escalators.
