Yes, hello. You’re almost there: the weekend is nigh! And with it, scheduled Metro track work, of course. But before you bemoan the Metro system entirely, have a look at what’s going on. Actually, half of Metro’s lines—the Yellow, Blue, and Silver lines—will be operating on regular weekend schedules.
Red Line
Trains every 10-20 minutes.
Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:
- Between Shady Grove and Glenmont: every 20 minutes.
- Between Friendship Heights and NoMa-Gallaudet: every 10-12 minutes Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Work Performed: Switch replacement, joint elimination, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride will cause Red Line trains to share one track between Medical Center and Grosvenor and between Silver Spring and Forest Glen.
Orange Line
Orange Line trains will operate every 18 minutes throughout the weekend.
Work Performed: Platform rehabilitation, joint elimination, grout pad replacement, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride will cause Orange Line trains to share one track between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly.
Green Line
Green Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between Branch Avenue and College Park.
Stations Closed: Greenbelt
Free shuttle buses will replace Green Line trains between College Park and Greenbelt.
Work Performed: Continued construction of a new test track located between College Park and Greenbelt to accept Metro’s new fleet of 7000-series railcars.
