Lord knows there’s no shortage of brunch options in This Town. Here, have another:Mango Tree, located in the chic CityCenter development, recently launched weekend brunch service. The Thai restaurant invited DCist in to sample the new menu, which includes Asian twists on standard brunch fare.
For starters, consider splitting the spicy and refreshing green papaya salad, served with poached shrimp. It packs a good amount of heat, especially for anyone brave enough to down one of the Thai chilis.
Entrees include three variations of Eggs Benedict, each with a Thai flare. The grilled salmon option served with kaffir lime hollandaise and spinach was quite delicious. Beef cheeks come with a green curry hollandaise, and there’s also a spinach-only version for vegetarians. Each plate comes with a side of wonderfully crispy hash browns.
It may be a Thai restaurant, but don’t overlook the excellent pancakes. They’ve got a cinnamon flavor, which are laced with a bacon, apple and bourbon topping, and maple syrup. Breakfast lovers can also indulge in a selection of waffles or french toast.
One of the highlights of the entire menu is the homemade Northern Thai-style sausage. Pork lovers shouldn’t miss this aromatic and incredibly savory and tender dish.
No brunch is complete with a cocktail or two, and while Mango Tree doesn’t have a bottomless option, it nails its menu of unique, well-balanced drinks. The range from $8 to $12 and feature exotic spirits like cacacha, Mekhong Thai spirit, tea-infused vodka, and fruits like lychee and mango.
One of the standouts is the Spicy Siam, made with chili-infused mango rum, mango and fresh lime. It’s got a subtle spice and the fresh fruit lends the right amount of sweetness and mouthfeel. The Strawberry Basil Caipirinha, made with fresh fruit and herbs, is another incredibly refreshing choice. You can also keep it simple with a traditional bloody mary or mimosa for $8.
Despite its ritzy, happening location, Mango Tree has a relatively approachable price point, which is key for this classy, flavorful brunch in a sea of, well, classy, flavorful brunch options.
Mango Tree is located at 929 H Street NW. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
