One person was critically injured in a fire on a Greyhound bus in Virginia yesterday. Authorities say that the man injured may have been a stowaway on the bus and the fire may have been caused when he lit a cigarette.

The driver of the bus, which was headed south on I-95 in Stafford County, Va., pulled over at about 2:45 p.m. after noticing smoke in the bus. The Post reports that all 28 passengers of the bus exited safely, but when firefighters arrived they discovered the fire had started in the luggage compartment, where a person was hiding out. He was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be from a lit cigarette, police are still investigating if that’s indeed the case, and how the man ended up in the luggage compartment. The bus, which was headed to Richmond from New York City, caused traffic on I-95 to be backed up for about 8 miles.
