I have to imagine that D.C.’s work productivity levels took a nosedive this afternoon, as thousands of people craned their necks out of office windows, walked over to the Mall, or headed up to their buildings’ rooftops to see an incredible airshow.
For about half an hour, formation after formation of World War II era aircraft flew overhead to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory in Europe, or V-E Day. Among them was the only airworthy B-29 Superfortress in the world.

Even the D.C. Council got in on the action, live tweeting from the Wilson Building.
Apologies for us nerding out on the DC flyover, the planes, and, frankly, the quality of our own photography. pic.twitter.com/gqjXdRfq8O

Things mostly went smoothly, though at least one plane had to divert to DCA to make an emergency landing.
