It was a rough week for Metro, to say the least. On Monday, an arcing insulator near the Rosslyn and Foggy Bottom Metro stations caused smoke, which took the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines out of service for a good part of the day. On top of that, other Metro lines experienced heavy delays this week, making commuting a nightmare for people.

This weekend isn’t looking too much better, as all six Metro lines will be experiencing scheduled track work. Here’s what’s going on:

Red Line

Trains every 24 minutes.

Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:

  • Between Shady Grove and Glenmont: every 24 minutes.
  • Between Grosvenor and Judiciary Square: every 12-14 minutes Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. only.

Work Performed: Ballast, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride will cause Red Line trains to share one track between Twinbrook & Shady Grove and between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue.

Orange Line

Orange Line trains will operate every 18 minutes throughout the weekend.

Orange Line trains will share one track between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly to allow for platform rehabilitation, joint elimination, grout pad replacement, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride.

Silver Line

Silver Line trains will operate every 18 minutes throughout the weekend.

To coordinate with rebuilding work on the Orange Line, Silver Line trains will share one track between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road.

Blue Line

Blue Line trains will operate every 18 minutes throughout the weekend.

To coordinate with rebuilding work on the Orange Line, Blue Line trains will share one track between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road.

Yellow Line

Yellow Line trains operate every 20 minutes between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square only. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq should use a Green Line train to complete your trip.

Green Line

Green Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.

Green Line trains will share one track between College Park & Greenbelt to allow for continued construction of our test track to accept Metro’s new fleet of 7000-series railcars and between Naylor Road & Branch Avenue to replace rail ties and insulators for a safer ride.
